A Negroni is an Italian cocktail, made of one part gin, one part vermouth rosso and one part Campari, garnished with orange peel. It is considered an aperitivo. A traditionally made Negroni is stirred, not shaken; it is built over ice in an old-fashioned or rocks glassand garnished with a slice of orange.

The story of the origins of Negroni are not totally clear, but the first person to popularize the drink was Orson Welles, who when filming Black Magic in Rome tried and loved the cocktail, pronouncing, “the bitters are excellent for your liver, the gin is bad for you. They balance each other.”

Every year in September, there is a week dedicated to the Negroni cocktail.
