Java Chata Cocktail || Mix It Up! with Table & Vine MA

This twist on the classic Mexican Horchata is a refreshing pick-me-up perfect for any spring afternoon, but especially Cinco de Mayo!

For Horchata Mixture:

  • 1/2 cup White rice and 1 cup water
  • 2 cups water for later
  • ¼ cup Sugar
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/2 of a Mexican Cinnamon stick or 1 tsp. cinnamon powder
  • ½ cup Almond Milk (or other Milk alternative)

Drink Ingredients:

  • 4 oz homemade Horchata mixture
  • 2 oz Coffee or Espresso
  • 2 oz Dark Rum
Garnish: Cinnamon stick

Horchata Instructions:

  • Soak ½ cup rice and cinnamon in 1 cup hot water overnight in the fridge
  • Combine softened rice and cinnamon in a blender until smooth
  • Strain into a container through a fine mesh strainer to sift out any large rice pieces
  • Stir in ½ cup almond milk, 1 tsp vanilla extract, ¼ cup sugar and an extra 2 cups water
  • Chill mixture in fridge

Mix It Up!

Pour 4 oz horchata mixture over ice in a highball glass
Top with 2 oz coffee or espresso
Add 2 oz dark rum
Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy!
